The Fullerton and La Habra city councils are planning to take a position on the controversial plan that calls for an airport at El Toro Marine base.

The councils expect to pass resolutions later this month. While no council member has publicly stated an opinion on the issue, some officials have hinted they are leaning in favor of the airport.

“This council needs to take a stand and let our supervisor, who claims to represent north Orange County, know how we stand,” La Habra Councilman Steven C. Anderson said.

Orange County Supervisor Todd A. Spitzer, whose district stretches from La Habra to Mission Viejo, has opposed the airport.

Two main options are being debated: an international airport at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station when the property is turned over to Orange County in 1999; or the non-aviation Millennium Plan, prepared by South County cities to include a central park, housing, office space, a museum and a university.
