Ex-Husband Kills 3, Commits Suicide
Two days after his ex-wife remarried, a former deputy sheriff set her mobile home on fire and shot and killed her, her new husband and their friend when they ran outside. Then Everett “E. C.” Cobb walked to a field and killed himself. Cobb apparently had been depressed for weeks about the marriage of his former wife, Joyce, to Michael Newberry. Cobb, 52, was a deputy in Russellville for about six years until 1983. He was forced to resign after it was alleged he sexually assaulted a teenage girl. Cobb never was charged.
