Council OKs Changes to Community Plan

Share

To bring the Sherman Oaks-Studio City-Toluca Lake Community Plan into alignment with the physical reality of the area, the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday approved several changes to the document.

One of the more significant changes was the rezoning of an area on Laurelwood Drive near Carpenter Avenue Elementary School to keep density low as new developments are built.

Although the plan allows multifamily developments, the new zoning allows one unit per 1,500 square feet of land, compared with one unit per 800 to 1,200 square feet under the previous plan.

The city decided to amend the plan after the old zoning allowed a dense condominium complex to be built on Laurelwood. Nearby residents complained that the complex has caused drainage problems, due to extensive grading.

Many of the plan’s other amendments were procedural, bringing maps up to date.
