City Permit Needed to Drain Pools, Spas

Share

With summer and broiling temperatures quickly approaching, Simi Valley is reminding residents that as they prepare their pools for a season worth of play, dumping water into the Arroyo Simi not only requires official permission but could be dangerous to the environment.

Swimming pool and spa water often contains dangerous chemicals like chlorine, bromine and other copper-based algaecides.

A special use permit, which can be obtained free from the Public Works Department, is required before the water can be discharged into storm drains.

The water must first be tested by the city to ensure that it falls within minimum safety standards established by the state.

For information on how to correctly dispose of chemically-treated water, call the city Source Control Program at 583-6462.
