Online Guide Companies Cancel Merger

Online guide makers CitySearch of Pasadena and Zip2 of Mountain View agreed to call off their planned merger. The privately owned companies cited differences in their technologies, product strategies and business models. The $300-million merger was announced in early April. CitySearch creates online city guides, and Zip2 produces locally focused online yellow pages and entertainment listings. Times Mirror Co., parent company of the Los Angeles Times, is a CitySearch investor.
