Evacuees Return to Slide-Damaged Town
From Times Wire Reports
Residents of the southern town of Quindici returned home a day after they were evacuated when rain triggered fears of new mudslides. Quindici is one of the towns at the base of Mt. Sarno inundated by rivers of mud after torrential rains last week. The mudslides claimed at least 148 lives, including 11 in Quindici. The hardest-hit town was Sarno, which lost 125 people. Another 130 victims are believed to be still buried beneath the hardened mud.
