Exxon Wins Safety Award for Camarillo District
The Interior Department’s Minerals Management Service announced that Exxon Co. U.S.A. has won the Camarillo District Safety Award for Excellence.
The award honors the company’s 1997 drilling and production operations on Platform Harmony, located in federal waters off Santa Barbara County.
Exxon conducted its drilling “while maintaining a constant awareness for the safety of personnel, protection of the environment and adherence to operating regulations,” said J. Lisle Reed, regional director of the Pacific OCS Region.
Platform Harmony stands in 1,198 feet of water, just more than six miles off the coast of Santa Barbara. Since the facility began production in 1993, it has produced more than 30 million barrels of oil and 30 billion cubic feet of natural gas.
The Minerals Management Service established the safety program in 1983 to recognize companies that enhance offshore operational safety and environmental protection for the nation’s outer continental shelf. In addition to compliance with federal regulations, award criteria include accuracy of record keeping, training, equipment maintenance and utilization of new technology.
