Honda Accords to Be Exported to U.S. Again

TOKYO —
Honda Motor Co. will resume exports of its popular Accord model to the United States in order to meet unexpectedly high demand for the cars.
Honda stopped exporting the vehicles to the U.S. last year when it decided to concentrate production of Accords earmarked for sale in the U.S. market at two plants in Ohio. The move was timed to coincide with a model change in September.
But sales have been so strong that the company will augment U.S. output with exports from Japan.
The Accord sedan was the second best-selling car last year in the U.S. market, with sales of 385,000 vehicles. The top model was Toyota’s Camry.
Honda plans to ship 60,000 Accords per year to the U.S. from Japan, starting as early as July.
