Tricky EU Question Settles Geography Bee
From Times Wire Reports
Petko Peev won the National Geography Bee in Washington, D.C., by listening closely to a question about Europe. Peev, 13, of Grand Rapids, Mich., correctly answered that Germany is the European Union’s most populous country, with more than 80 million people. That enabled Peev to defeat J. B. Kizer of Portsmouth, Ohio. Kizer answered “Russia,” which has 150 million people and is part of Europe--but not part of the 15-country EU. Peev won a $25,000 scholarship.
