Norman A. Bennett Jr.; 40-Year County Resident

Norman A. Bennett Jr., a 40-year resident of Ventura County, died Wednesday following a lengthy illness. He was 72.

Bennett was born Dec. 4, 1925, in Los Angeles. He served in the Navy during World War II. In 1958, Bennett moved from Los Angeles to Ventura.

He worked for Pacific Telephone for 31 years, retiring as a plant engineer in 1982. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and Ventura Retired Professional and Business Mens Club.

Bennett was a Mason at Los Angeles Lodge 571 and a volunteer for Food Share of Ventura County. He also enjoyed fishing and watching his grandchildren play sports, his family said.

Bennett is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Bennett of Ventura; three sons, Doug Bennett of Ventura, Greg Bennett of Issaquah, Wash., and Matt Bennett of Venice; a daughter, Jan Lewis of Ventura, and 10 grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Assn. in Ventura.
