City Council OKs Club’s Activities Center Plans
A proposal by the local Boys and Girls Club to build and operate an activities headquarters next to the city’s $6-million Community Center received preliminary approval this week from the City Council.
Club operators propose constructing a $1.5-million, 11,000-square-foot building at the city center. The city would contribute about $55,000 toward plumbing, electrical and other building costs. If the club is unable to raise enough money for the project, it would be obligated to refund the city its costs.
The community center is expected to be completed by August. The 36,400-square-foot building at Camino del Avion and Alipaz Street is next to Marco Forster Elementary School.
The proposal will be back for final approval next month. The club is seeking donations from businesses and other groups to pay for the project.
