New Charges Brought Against Former Judge

Share

A week after police found him lying in the street after a bike accident, embattled Ventura County Judge Robert C. Bradley was charged with three criminal misdemeanors Friday stemming from the incident.

The state attorney general’s office charged Bradley, 57, with public intoxication, riding a bicycle while intoxicated and violating his probation by drinking.

Bradley, who has been suspended from the Superior Court bench, previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol on two occasions. The terms of his probation prohibit him from drinking alcohol.

The new charges were filed Friday in Ventura County Municipal Court. Bradley faces up to six months in jail or a $1,000 fine for the public intoxication charge, and an additional $250 for riding a bike while drunk.

His arraignment is set for Tuesday in Santa Barbara County Municipal Court.

In addition, Bradley’s most recent probation violations, which he acknowledged in an interview with The Times earlier this week, could result in a stiff penalty.

According to the attorney general’s office, the probation violations could result in his probation being revoked and maximum jail sentences imposed for the previous drunk driving convictions.
