Ex-POWs Protest During Akihito Visit

Japan’s Emperor Akihito expressed sorrow for the wartime suffering of British former prisoners of war just hours after hundreds of survivors booed and whistled at him in London. Protesters demanding a full apology and compensation for Japan’s atrocities turned their backs as Akihito and Queen Elizabeth II drove past in a carriage to Buckingham Palace.
