Cultural Meeting on Native American Life

Share

Ancient Native American life is the focus of this week’s Seal Beach Historical and Cultural Society’s meeting.

William McCawley, author of “The First Angelenos,” will lead a discussion on the Native American Gabrielino and Uto-Aztecan tribes who lived in the area that is now Seal Beach.

The issue of how best to preserve ancient Native American relics buried on the Hellman Ranch proposed development site is being debated in Orange County courts.

Today’s meeting also gives the society a chance to display Native American artifacts excavated in 1958 when the Marina Hill neighborhood was built. The artifacts are on display at the Red Car Museum.

The meeting is free. For more information, call Eloise Shanks at (562) 431-9501.
