* NationsBank Corp. said it was told by federal prosecutors that it is not a target of a grand jury investigation involving securities sales by NationsBank and Barnett Banks Inc. The bank made the statement in response to news stories that a Tampa, Fla., federal grand jury had issued subpoenas for information about the company’s securities sales. Jonathan Alpert, a Tampa lawyer who has represented customers of Charlotte, N.C.-based NationsBank in private lawsuits, said he received subpoenas seeking documents about mutual fund and other securities sales by NationsBank and Barnett, which NationsBank acquired earlier this year. A spokesman for the Tampa U.S. Attorney’s office concurred with NationsBank’s statement.
