The Country Manor Convalescent Hospital was fined $9,000 by the state earlier this year for accepting a patient without being able to provide adequate care.

The patient, whose ailments included obstructive sleep apnea, died three days after he was admitted to the facility on Dec. 1, according to the state Department of Health Services.

The hospital was cited by the state in February because it did not have the equipment needed to help the patient breathe. The equipment arrived the day after the patient died.

The state Department of Health Services issued Country Manor a Class A citation for accepting and retaining a resident for whom they could not provide necessary care, presenting an imminent danger of death or serious harm.

Penalties for Class A citations range from $1,000 to $10,000.

Wayne Evans, part owner of Country Manor, would not comment on the citation, but said he has filed an appeal with the Department of Health Services. He would not release any information about the patient.
