The City Council will hold budget study sessions next week in hopes of adopting a budget on June 23, officials said.

At the sessions, to be held Monday and Tuesday, representatives from city administrative departments will present their 1998-99 budgets, said budget manager John Karcic.

The estimated total budget for the next fiscal year is $279.3 million, Karcic said.

The study sessions, which are open to the public, will be held at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 1685 Main St. If necessary, a third session will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the same location.

Copies of the proposed budget are available for public review at all branches of the Santa Monica Public Library, in the city clerk’s office at City Hall, at the Finance Department, 1717 4th St., and on the city’s Internet site at https://pen.ci.santa-monica.ca.us.

Residents may direct their comments about the budget to the council, the city manager’s office or any of the operating departments at or before the June 23 budget adoption hearing. Public comment is not allowed during the study sessions, Karcic said.

City finance officials will also attend all three Santa Monica farmers markets this weekend to answer questions from the public about the budget.
