Hate Surrounding Abortion Issue

Share

* Re “Misogyny Is at the Base of Its Agenda,” Commentary, Oct. 29: I am amazed at how cavalier you are at printing hate manuscripts from the pro-abortion left. Cynthia Tucker’s article underscores just how far they will go. Those who oppose abortion for any reason are categorized as from “dens, swamps and dark caves.” We are also all swept into the same mold as having sanctioned the killing of Dr. Barnett Slepian; most pro-life groups that I’m aware of deplored the murder and made their views known immediately.

I am further amazed that you would tolerate such categorization as anything other than Christian racism. Some of us detest the slaying of abortion providers, in much the same way we detest killing of pre-born, in-utero babies.

Tucker once again tries desperately to steer the discussion away from the spilled blood of the innocent babe to a woman’s right to kill her offspring. The abortion debate is and always was a human rights issue; trying to paint it into the corner of being merely a personal rights issue negates the larger picture--is the unborn a human with a unique genome or not?

The ugly, venomous blather spouted by abortion opponents clearly emboldens weak-minded followers to embrace murder and terrorism. If they are so concerned about the welfare of the unborn, how is it that these anti-abortion extremists can ignore the 40,000 children under the age of 5 who die every single day around the world of starvation and malnutrition?

Clearly right-wing conservatives practice denial and compartmentalization very effectively. They deny the majority the right of choice. They consider the 40,000 mostly children of color that die of hunger every day as nonentities who are somebody else’s problem.
