He’s Outta Here, Bound for NYC

Jerry Seinfeld has sold his Hollywood Hills home for $3.2 million to Alec Berg, an executive producer of the comedian’s former NBC series.

Seinfeld had been trying to sell the house long before his sitcom ended its nine-season run in May. Berg, who began as a “Seinfeld” writer in 1994, closed escrow months later. Now Seinfeld is waiting for renovations to be completed to move into the Manhattan co-op he bought in February.

Seinfeld had owned his Hollywood Hills home since 1992, when he paid a Fresno cotton grower $2.8 million for it. The house was built in 1967 by actor George Montgomery. He sold it around 1990 to the cotton grower, who gutted and rebuilt the house. The four-bedroom, 6,000-square-foot house has a screening room, 55-foot-long pool and city-to-ocean views.

Seinfeld, 44, is living in another Manhattan apartment he owns while waiting for the one he bought this year from violinist Isaac Stern to be remodeled. Stern, 78, is living mainly in Connecticut, although he has an apartment on Manhattan’s East Side.

Seinfeld’s new place, on the Upper West Side, isn’t expected to be ready for move-in until next summer. He paid $4.35 million for the three-bedroom, 3,900-square-foot unit, which is on the 19th and 20th floors of a building that also has actor Tony Randall as a resident.

Denzel Washington, who co-stars in the thriller “The Siege,” his wife, singer-pianist Pauletta, and their four children had hoped to be in their new home overlooking Beverly Hills by Thanksgiving. Now the target date is March.

The 17,000-square-foot-plus estate, in a guard-gated community in the Beverly Hills area, is taking longer to build primarily because of El Nin~o.

“The rain set them back,” said a family friend, “but the house just keeps getting better.”

Architect-builder Aleck Dugally is having many features, such as balustrades, handcrafted on the site, where specimen trees are also being planted.

The Washingtons bought the two lots for their home in 1996 from Disney chairman Michael Eisner and his wife, Jane, for about $6.5 million. The Oscar-winning actor, 43, personally negotiated the deal with Eisner, who received higher offers after the lots were in escrow. The Washingtons have lived for years in a Paul Williams-designed home in Toluca Lake.

Supermodel-actress Cindy Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber, owner of New York’s Whiskey and L.A.’s Skybar, have completed a remodel of the Malibu house that Gerber, 36, bought just before he and Crawford, 32, were married in late May.

The three-bedroom, 2,400-square-foot house, on a sandy beach, was formerly owned by rocker-actor Jon Bon Jovi. Gerber purchased the house, on a private road, for $1.85 million. The house has French limestone floors and ocean views. Comic Garry Shandling is a neighbor.

The couple also have a 1929-era Spanish-style home in Brentwood, which Crawford purchased in 1997 for about $1.8 million.
