To borrow a line from an old song, “happy, loving couples make it look so easy,” and now there’s a magazine just for them: Spoon.

The glossy pages are clearly targeted at urban professionals with money to spend. The premiere issue features his-and-her fashion layouts, including a spread of wedding dresses (hint, hint!), tips on decorating for the holidays, and recipes for a four-course autumn feast. A report on the swing scene is dated, but a story on the basics of wine tasting is informative and unpretentious.

In the perfect-couple department, actors and real-life lovers Vinessa Shaw and Oliver Hudson lounge around in a “Holiday From Hollywood” photo spread. Loren Segan and John Ziaukas tell readers about their escape from a New York City suburb (he was a corporate lawyer; she, a stay-at-home fiction writer) and the grueling move to Hollywood, where they both slipped into the television writing business in a little more than two years.

Bottom line: If you’re single, ugly or unsuccessful, stay away from Spoon.
