Certified Teachers

* So now we have outcomes-based education for teachers! It appears that national board certification for teachers is the last nail in the coffin of good teaching (Nov. 13). Can you not recognize this scam for what it is: another red herring to make the public think that the education establishment has finally gotten its act together? Think again!

Exactly what do “honesty, fairness, respect for diversity and cultural differences” and showing that “they collaborate with their peers” have to do with academic excellence? Board certification of teachers is a way to reward the most politically correct, not the most competent. Anyone who thinks that this shift into the twilight zone of Goals 2000 will boost academic achievement in our schools is deluded and uninformed.
