Calcot Ltd., the state’s largest cotton cooperative, won permission from its members to market almonds. Bakersfield-based Calcot said 51% of its membership in California and Arizona approved the charter change. The move comes as cotton acreage and prices have continued to shrink in the last few years. Calcot said several of its growers in the San Joaquin Valley have been producing almonds in recent years.
