Liberal Lawmaker Is Shot to Death
An outspoken liberal lawmaker who planned to run for president in Russia’s next election was gunned down in St. Petersburg, police said. Galina V. Starovoitova, a member of the lower house of Russia’s parliament, was attacked in the entryway of an apartment. A neighbor found her body and called an ambulance, police said. The Interfax news agency said her aide, Ruslan Linkov, was seriously injured. Police would not speculate on a motive for the killing. Starovoitova, 52, was scheduled to attend a session of the Northern Capital political movement today, Interfax said.
