Scientific Work Requires Money

Share

* I was disappointed to read your Nov. 17 article, “Savory Science?”

The article did point out [that some research suggests] the effectiveness of garlic extract. However, it also stated, “ . . . controversy lingers about funding.”

There is no controversy. Conferences cost money. Somebody has to pay. Industry pays for research but not for results. If resources stop coming in from industry, most scientific development will stop.

The Times should realize that just as advertisers don’t control the editorial content of newspapers, research sponsors don’t control the content of published research.
