October Was Hottest on Record, Continuing Worldwide Trend in ’98
Late-arriving reports from Canada boosted the world’s average temperature for the month of October to 58.18 degrees Fahrenheit. That topped the record 58.15 set a year earlier, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officials said Tuesday.
The final reading for October means that every month so far this year has been the warmest on record. The string of hot months has increased some environmentalists’ concern that human activities are adding chemicals to the atmosphere that could boost temperatures and cause changes in climate.
