Rudeness to Scout

Share

* I would like to respond to Peta Noble’s Nov. 24 letter about adults being rude to her child outside the market. Our local market has become a collection area for numerous charities. You cannot walk into the market without being asked for something. These people stand or sit right by the door, so you cannot gracefully enter without dealing with them first. It really gets to be very annoying after awhile. I used to contribute to some, but it got so out of hand, I just don’t anymore.

Even though being rude to a child is never right, many people could just be reacting to collection overkill.

* As a former Eagle Scout and veteran of numerous sales and collection drives, I was far more offended reading of a Scout troop’s “panhandling” than I was by the “rudeness” of passers-by who ignored them. There are many fund-raising activities that would have been far more useful to the community, instructive to the boys and helpful to the less-privileged. Noble might advise her son’s troop to contact the local council for suggestions.
