New Uniforms Don’t Help at All

Share

UCLA, after considering the option for nearly three years and getting approval at every level, finally broke out the black uniforms Friday, tradition be damned.

“I’m sure I’ll be seen as the antichrist with the black uniforms,” Coach Steve Lavin said.

If the one-game switch to primarily gold uniforms earlier this decade for a game against Denny Crum and Louisville caused an uproar, imagine what could happen now, with an entirely different color and plans to use the new uniforms for a few more road games this season.

Not to mention the attachment to the 70-54 loss to Maryland in which they shot 33.3% and trailed by 23 points in the second half.

“After the way we played tonight, I might leave them in Puerto Rico,” Lavin said of the black uniforms. “Under a palm tree or something.”
