Police Seeking Good Samaritan

Police would like to find and thank a witness who assisted in the capture of two armed men suspected of robbing a credit union.

Premier Credit Union at 400 Country Wide Way in Simi Valley was robbed about noon Sept. 17, Police Det. Jay Carrott said Wednesday.

Two Los Angeles men suspected in the holdup were arrested the same day after leading a Ventura County sheriff’s deputy on a chase from Simi Valley to Rampart Boulevard and 3rd Street in Los Angeles.

The deputy was alerted to the getaway car by an unidentified young man who was driving a small, white pickup, detectives said.

The man saw the suspects leave the credit union, change clothes and switch cars, authorities said. The man then followed them onto the Ronald Reagan Freeway, where he flagged the deputy, Carrott said. The deputy began chasing the men before learning the identity of the witness, the detective added.

“He was a genuine good Samaritan and it would be nice to get some recognition to him,” Carrott said.

The Simi Valley City Council would also like to thank the witness during one of its meetings, detectives said.

The Simi Valley Police Department can be reached at 583-6950.
