Walkers to Fill Coffers for Canning Hunger

A local charity plans to raise millions to feed families through its sixth annual Canning Hunger Partnership 5K Run/Walk and 1K Kids Run today at 8 a.m.

Organizers hope that this year’s race will raise $2.5 million to buy 1 million meals for local families.

Canning Hunger, a Brea-based nonprofit organization, uses neighborhood leaders and volunteers to bring hunger relief to disadvantaged communities.

The event will enlist the help of 200 volunteers; more than 1,000 runners are expected. According to Canning Hunger, the races have, over five years, provided more than 3 million meals to area families.
