Expanding Role of Supervisor

Share

I wholeheartedly agree with Supervisor Todd Spitzer that it is the elected supervisors and not a nonelected bureaucrat that has my best interest at heart.

O I strongly disagree with the notion that elected officials do not know their constituency best or that they are not capable of managing Orange County.

At least we have one supervisor who takes his oath to protect the taxpayers seriously and is up to the task he was elected to perform. Thanks to Spitzer for doing his job!

Let’s not forget the trouble we got ourselves into before the chief executive officer position was set up. Since then we have had two excellent chief officers and have seen the best performance of government functioning ever.

The supervisors’ job should be policy direction, advice and consent, not daily execution of those policies. CEO Jan Mittermeier should be given the authority due the position. The supervisors should allow her the freedom to perform her job.

Congratulations on Mittermeier’s most recent honor in being named one of the top public officials of the year in the national magazine, Governing (Sept. 29). Interesting that the recognition is not being given in this case to an elected official.
