GOOD TO GO

Fast food eaten on the run can also be good food. Astro Burger’s fish sandwich, for instance, contains fried breaded cod that is prepared on the premises, not purchased precooked and frozen. The fish is layered on a toasted sesame seed bun with tomato and lettuce, and the bun is painted with tartar sauce on the bottom and either mayonnaise or thousand island dressing on the cut side of the top.

What you wouldn’t know unless you asked is that the mayo is low-fat--it contains no egg yolks--and the oil is canola. Ditto the thousand island dressing and tartar sauce, which are made at the Astro with the same mayonnaise.

Fish sandwich, $2.85 at Hollywood Astro Burger only. 5601 Melrose Ave. (323) 469-1924.
