LANCASTER — A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of trying to have his wife killed after the man he hired told police about the plan, authorities said Tuesday.
Martyn J. Haggett of Lancaster was arrested about 7 p.m. Monday, said Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Irving.
Haggett allegedly wanted his estranged wife and her boyfriend killed, Irving said, and he hired someone to carry out the plan but the alleged hit man went to deputies at the Sheriff’s Department’s Lancaster station.
The man cooperated with Special Investigation Bureau deputies, who arrested Haggett, Irving said.
Haggett was booked at the Lancaster station and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Formal charges of solicitation and conspiracy to commit murder had not yet been filed Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
No other information about the case was immediately available, Irving said.
