Espy Investigation
According to a Times report (Oct. 1), former Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy is scheduled to face trial on 38 alleged felony counts of accepting gifts, including sports tickets and a crystal bowl, with a total value of $35,000.
In order to arrive at this prosecutorial pinnacle, independent counsel Donald C. Smaltz spent four years and $17 million. So far.
The average dollar value of each alleged count is $921.05. The average cost of prosecuting each of the 38 alleged counts is $447,368.42. So far.
