Police Give Residents a Peek at New Station

More than 500 Simi Valley residents and officials turned out Saturday to tour the city’s new state-of-the-art 55,000-square-foot police station.

The building at 1301 Alamo St. was dedicated in conjunction with the city’s 29th birthday. It is slated to open in about a month.

Tour-goers included men, women and children, from seniors to babies in buggies, Councilman Bill Davis said.

“I think they were just absolutely amazed at what they saw,” Davis said. “It really is state-of-the-art.”

The current station is half the size of the new facility and is in a building that was not designed as a police department, Davis said.

Some features of the new two-story site include a secured parking area for patrol cars, a drive-in garage that allows officers to pull in next to holding cells, a dispatch center with adjustable tables and a separate booking area.

“I would say the best thing about the new building is the professional atmosphere that it puts forth,” Simi Valley Police Lt. Rex Jones said. “We have new graphics on our cars, we are one of the safest cities in the nation and now we have a building we can be proud of.”
