How technology can help small business will be a focus of The Times’ Small Business Strategies Conference this weekend.

Experts on seven technology-related panels will cover such topics as setting up a “virtual office,” dealing with the year 2000 computer problem, preparing for the impact of advanced technology on the region’s economy, and choosing the best telephone and electrical service for your business.

Other issues include the benefits of having a Web site; the importance of choosing the right software; and how to link management, employees and customers on a single computer network.

The conference, the first of its kind locally, will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Designed to help small businesses succeed in an increasingly competitive marketplace, the event will feature more than 40 panels in six subject tracks with more than 100 speakers, along with an exhibit hall, networking opportunities and free advice sessions. Other subjects to be covered include financing, growth planning, marketing and entrepreneurship.

Registration is $99 for both days and $70 for one day. For more information, call (800) 350-3211 or visit the conference Web site at https://www.latimes.com/sbsc.
