A 75-year-old Simi Valley man died Tuesday when his car was knocked 125 feet after a collision near 4th Street and Royal Avenue.
Merced Ortega Vasquez died when his Hyundai was hit by a VW Jetta driven by Eric Patrick Kehoe, 27, of Simi Valley, police said. Vasquez was making a left turn onto 4th Street.
The passenger side of Vasquez’s car was folded inward more than halfway across its body, police said. The vehicle stopped against a house on the north side of Royal, three houses from the intersection.
Vasquez was treated at the scene and taken to Simi Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Kehoe was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks after initially refusing treatment at the scene. A nursing supervisor said he was treated and released.
Police have not determined the cause of the accident, said Lt. Jon Ainsworth.
