Council Votes to Amend Impact Report for Mall

The City Council voted 4 to 2 to correct errors in a key report on orders from a judge reviewing a challenge to the construction of a shopping and movie complex on South Lake Avenue.

Council members took the action after Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert O’Brien, while hearing a lawsuit challenging the project, ordered the council to clarify language in an environmental impact report.

O’Brien said the city needed to clean up inconsistencies in the environmental report before he could issue a decision in the lawsuit, which was filed by preservationists and local activists.

The lawsuit alleges that the city could have approved a project with fewer disruptions to the neighborhood.

The South Lake retail project was approved by the council in April, after 33 public meetings. It calls for a seven-screen movie theater, a supermarket and a row of upscale boutique stores.
