The Magic of Ceramics, a special exhibit on the diversity of high-tech applications and the artistic beauty of ceramic materials, is coming to UC Irvine’s Science Library, Monday through Nov. 13.

Sponsored by the American Ceramic Society, the exhibit is a glimpse at how clay, sand and other common earth materials are transformed into many important high-tech applications, beautiful pottery and other traditional ceramics such as tile and dinnerware.

The exhibit coincides with the 50th annual Pacific Coast Regional and Basic Science Division Meeting of the American Ceramic Society. About 500 ceramic engineers and other professionals will attend the meeting, scheduled Oct. 21-24 at the Hyatt Regency Irvine.

“The exhibit and outreach program are designed to enhance awareness and spark interest in pre-college students about ceramics and careers in the advanced sciences,” said Mark Glasper, director of communications for the American Ceramic Society.
