Chevron Settles EPA Waste Water Suit
Chevron Corp. agreed to pay $540,000 to settle a lawsuit by the Environmental Protection Agency accusing the company of polluting waters at its Richmond refinery. The San Francisco-based oil and gas producer was accused of violating the federal Clean Water Act and the refinery’s operating permits by discharging waste water above toxicity limits. Chevron denied liability and agreed to new waste water treatment measures in a consent decree filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco. Chevron shares rose $1.75 to close at $112 on the NYSE.
