Date Set for Rogers’ Return to Face Trial

Accused serial killer Glen Rogers is scheduled to return to California this month to face capital murder charges in the 1995 strangulation of a Santa Monica woman.

Rogers will be flown Oct. 27 from Florida, where he is in prison awaiting execution for another slaying, a source familiar with the extradition proceedings said Thursday.

The Florida Supreme Court ruled in May that Rogers could be extradited to face murder charges in California, but he appealed the decision.

Officials in Gov. Pete Wilson’s office said Florida’s high court denied a rehearing on the matter in September and on Tuesday ordered prison officials to release the inmate to California authorities.

Sandra Gallagher’s charred body was found in her pickup truck outside an apartment building in Van Nuys. Authorities allege Rogers killed the Santa Monica resident and then set her body on fire.

In an extradition agreement with Florida Gov. Lawton Chiles, Wilson agreed to return Rogers to Florida to serve his sentence at the completion of his California trial.

Rogers was sentenced to death last year for stabbing to death Tina Marie Cribbs, a hotel maid who gave him a ride to a carnival. He is also accused of slayings in Mississippi and Louisiana.
