Extradition of Accused Killer Set for Oct. 27
Alleged serial killer Glen Rogers is scheduled to return to California Oct. 27 to face capital murder charges in the 1995 strangulation murder of a Van Nuys woman.
Rogers will be flown out of Florida, where he is imprisoned awaiting execution for a murder, a source familiar with the extradition proceedings said Thursday.
The Florida Supreme Court ruled in May that Rogers could be extradited to face murder charges in California, but he appealed the decision.
Officials in Gov. Pete Wilson’s office said Florida’s high court denied a rehearing on the matter in September and on Tuesday issued a mandate to prison officials that the inmate be released to California authorities.
Sandra Gallagher’s charred body was found in her pickup truck outside an apartment building in Van Nuys. Authorities allege that Rogers set her on fire after killing her.
In an extradition agreement with Florida Gov. Lawton Chiles, Wilson agreed to return Rogers to Florida to serve his sentence at the completion of his California trial.
Rogers was sentenced to death last year for fatally stabbing Tina Marie Cribbs, a hotel maid who gave him a ride. He is also accused of murders in Mississippi and Louisiana.
