Black Women to Fete Lake Forest Official
The largest meeting of professional African American women in the county will meet for the 19th annual Bethune Recognition Luncheon on Saturday to honor the contributions of Lake Forest Councilwoman Kathryn McCullough.
The National Council of Negro Women Inc. annually throws the gala to promote education, ethnic pride and cultural support for African American families and communities, sponsors said.
Garden Grove resident Beatrice C. Jones, chairwoman of the county’s chapter, will speak on the unifying influence of flags. Jones, who owns Senoj American African Flags, will discuss and display three flags--the Pan African, the African American Flag of Unity and the state flag.
Jones said the luncheon will be a chance for local residents to meet many “so-called elusive African American women role models.”
Women belonging to chapters in the Inland Empire, the High Desert, Moreno Valley, Pomona Valley, Perris, Riverside and San Gabriel Valley are also expected to attend.
The event begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Buena Park Hotel and Convention Center, 7675 Crescent Ave. Tickets are $25.
