New $1.2-Million Water Well Ready to Go Into Operation

The city’s first new water well in 25 years is scheduled to begin supplying Lakewood’s water system in the next few days, city officials said.

The well, which cost $1.2 million, is bigger than the city’s other wells and will produce 4 million gallons of water a day, nearly half of the water delivered to about 20,000 households.

With current wells near the end of their life spans, the new well is an important addition to the city’s water supply, said city spokesman Don Waldie. The well will begin feeding the city’s water system after undergoing routine tests.
