Catholic Bishops Urge Promotion of Women

WASHINGTON — Roman Catholic authorities must do more to speed up the promotion of women in the church, according to a policy statement by the U.S. Bishops Committee on Women in Society. But the bishops did not challenge the church’s position prohibiting women’s ordination.

It also urges efforts to “promote collaboration between women and men in the church.”
