Chapman Edges Menlo in Overtime, 26-25

Steve Little’s extra point made the difference for visiting Chapman, as the Panthers defeated Menlo in overtime, 26-25, in a nonconference football game Saturday at Connor Field in Atherton, Calif.

Rodney Freer’s 47-yard field goal for Chapman (2-5) tied the score, 12-12, with 3 minutes 44 seconds in the fourth quarter.

Menlo scored first in overtime, with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Kahekili Hugo to Eddie Miller. Chad Simpson’s kick made it 19-12.

Chapman bounced back when Mark Simpson scored on a 27-yard reception from Greg Hyland. Little’s kick tied the score, 19-19.

Hyland then threw his second touchdown pass, 19 yards to Johnny Vineyard. Little’s kick put the Panthers ahead for good.

Menlo (2-5) came back with a four-yard run by Dan Nguyen to narrow the score to 26-25, but a two-point conversion failed, ending the game.

Menlo built the lead in the second quarter with two touchdowns by Hugo.

Hyland finished with 18 completed passes in 32 attempts, for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

Menlo’s Hugo completed 20 of 40 passes for 275 yards.
