Next Wednesday, as part of the new Southern California Living section, staff writer Rene Tawa goes back to class--to the Claremont School of Theology and its Future Ministers Competition. One of the winners is Summer Dowd-Lukesh of Rancho Cucamonga, whose prize is a certificate for one year’s free tuition to the school’s graduate seminary. That’s worth $8,000 now and likely thousands more by the time Summer is old enough to get a master of divinity. She is 6 years old. Claremont’s contest is part of an effort to encourage kids as young as 5 to consider the ordained ministry.

Wednesday’s section will also be home to the popular Ink, Speed Read and Bookshelf features as our books coverage expands to include a book review every day. Next Wednesday watch for a conversation between Bebe Moore Campbell and Alice Walker.

And on the Kids’ Reading Room page, you’ll find Kid City, among other features for children.
