Skate Park Task Force Applications Extended

Share

The Cypress Recreation and Community Services Commission is still seeking applicants to serve on a task force studying the establishment of a skate park.

The commission has extended the deadline for applications to 5 p.m. Nov. 9.

The city has been considering locations for the park for the past year. A city proposal to build the skate park at Veterans Park has met with strong opposition from park neighbors.

The $75,000 skate park will be a “streetscape style” facility no bigger than 4,200 square feet, featuring curbs, ramps and rails no higher than 42 inches. It will be designed for novice skateboarders and in-line skaters and will be free of charge, unlit and unsupervised.

Interested task force participants must be Cypress residents and be able to attend meetings and activities requiring at least two hours per month.

Applications will be reviewed by the Recreation Commission at its Nov. 17 meeting. Seven appointments will be made, including one youth commissioner.

Applications are available at City Hall, 5275 Orange Ave., and at the Recreation and Park District office, 5700 Orange Ave.
