* Howard Milder; Real Estate Broker

Port Hueneme resident Howard Milder died Thursday after a brief illness. He was 88.

Milder was born June 20, 1910, in Omaha, Neb. He moved from Nebraska to Ventura County in 1965.

He was a self-employed real estate broker for 40 years and was active in community service. He was a past member of the Port Hueneme Planning Commission and a member and past president of the Port Hueneme Kiwanis. Milder was awarded that organization’s distinguished Legion of Merit award.

He was also past president of the Boys & Girls Club of Port Hueneme and was the recipient of the city’s Citizen of the Year award. Milder was a member of the board of directors of the Hueneme Bay Carefree Living Assn. He was also a member of Temple Beth Torah in Ventura.

Milder is survived by his wife of 67 years, Freda Milder of Port Hueneme; a son, Dr. Joel Milder of Port Hueneme; a daughter, Judy Vann of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Edward E. Milder of Los Angeles; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura with interment to follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura. Rabbi Lisa Hochberg-Miller of Temple Beth Torah of Ventura will officiate.
