Fred Volz, longtime Ojai Valley environmental activist, author and publisher, will be honored at a celebration in Ojai’s Soule Park on Saturday, his 80th birthday.
All are welcome at the potluck picnic, which begins at 5 p.m.
“Fred set the environmental tone for the valley in the 1960s,” said fellow Ojai Valley environmentalist Pat Weinberger.
“He was behind every issue, from helping to prevent the four-laning of the freeway into Ojai, to understanding what U.S. Gypsum mining would do to the valley,” she said.
In addition to his role as an activist, Volz has written hiking books and was publisher of the Ojai Valley News from 1962 to 1987.
