Mobs Torch Houses of Ethnic Chinese

Mobs rampaged through a fishing town about 700 miles northwest of the capital, Jakarta, setting fire to hundreds of homes and shops owned by ethnic Chinese, whom many Indonesians blame for their nation’s economic crisis. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s attorney general said he plans to question former President Suharto over claims that the ex-leader’s family used corruption to make a fortune during his 32 years in power.
